How To Find Targeted Visitors With Alexa & Quantcast
1. Define Your Target Market
Do you know the demographics of your market? If not then define the approximate age group of your target market, how much do they earn and are they predominantly male or female? Answers to these type of questions will roughly give you an overview of your target market.
2. Research & Find The Traffic Sources
This stage is all about researching and finding traffic sources that allow user submissions. In the steps below, I’ll show you how to research and find potential sources of traffic.
- Go to Alexa Top 500 Sites and if needed, filter by country or category.
- Shortlist sites which seem relevant. Do not be too thorough at this time, just pick and choose as many as you can because you will narrow this list further based on the demographics. Copy this list in an Excel spreadsheet or plain old Notepad.
- Narrow your list further to the sites which allow user contribution. Do not worry about backlinks or nofollow tags. Just check which sites allow user submissions and narrow the list purely on that basis. Examples of sites that allow user submissions are Digg.com and YouTube.
- This stage can be a painstaking but even if you can contribute to 5 out of those Alexa Top 500 sites successfully then imagine how quickly you can get targeted traffic.
3. Analyze Demographics Of The Shortlisted Sites
In this stage, you want to check whether the demographics of the shortlisted sites match that of your target market. Here Alexa along with Quantcast is used.
Let’s say that one of the sites you identified in the previous stage was EzineArticles. The next step is to go to Alexa and click the “Site Info” tab (highlighted in red in the image below). Thereafter, enter the web address of the site – in this case – ezinearticles.com and click the “Get Info” button (highlighted in green). This will show the traffic statistics of EzineArticles. Now click the “Demographics” tab (highlighted in blue) to view the demographics of the site.
Alexa Demographics of EzineArticles
This indicates that EzineArticles would be ideal if you were targeting visitors aged between 35 to 54, who have attended some college or college and primarily surf from home. For example, a work from home opportunity for housewives would be an appropriate product to promote via EzineArticles.
Now go to Quantcast and enter ezinearticles.com and click the “Find” button (highlighted in red in the image below) and then click the “Demographics” option (highlighted in green) to see the Quantcast demographics.
QuantCast Demographics of EzineArticles
Between Quantcast and Alexa, you’ll get a good idea of the demographics of the site you are targeting. However, do not take this as the Biblical truth.
4. Find Related Sites
If the target demographics match then you want to find out related sites where you can submit your content. This is easy to do both for Quantcast as well as Alexa.
The related sites for Quantcast are displayed under the “Summary” tab and for Alexa, it is under the “Related Links” tab. Check to see whether the related sites allow you to submit content, if yes then do so as this can become another source of traffic for you.
Conclusion
Please remember that this method in itself is not complete. See my review of Google Snatch Ultimatum to get an overview of the entire process. You will then understand that you have got to link and inter-link your posts or articles in order to be found via search engines. However, this was just one of the actionable topics that was covered in Google Snatch Ultimatum which I decided was worthwhile to share here. I’d highly recommend you to get Google Snatch Ultimatum for a complete blueprint on generating web traffic.
